At the heart of this initiative is a commitment by Mayo County Council to align with the National Policy, Town Centre First – A Policy Approach for Irish Towns. This groundbreaking strategy seeks to strengthen the role, image, and resilience of town centres across Ireland, ensuring they remain dynamic and welcoming spaces for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Our mission is to collaborate with the Town Team, local community members, and stakeholders to develop an ambitious action plan that will revitalize Ballyhaunis. By gathering diverse perspectives and ideas, we aim to create a plan that reflects the community's vision for its town centre—one that supports sustainable growth, promotes local heritage, and enhances quality of life.
The Ballyhaunis Town Team Statement
‘We are an enthusiastic group of Ballyhaunis people who have come together as a Town Team, under the Town Centre First programme. We have diverse backgrounds, skills and experiences and are all active in Ballyhaunis in different ways: business, sports, arts, culture, community, tidy towns, biodiversity, festivals & events. We want to do the best for our town, to drive it forward positively and inclusively. As Ballyhaunis has such rich cultural diversity, has one of the fastest growing populations in the West and it is one of the most youthful towns, it has incredible potential. For us it is important that everyone has a chance to contribute their ideas so that together, we can plan what needs to happen to make Ballyhaunis a better place to live, work, play, visit and do business.’
